I just spoke with Mr. Hutchins by telephone. For various reasons, he has chosen to spend a few days away from Raleigh but he will be returning soon. He is aware of the election returns.

This election will lay the groundwork for the future. Some possible options are to run as an Independent and/or to run in a different Congressional District in the future. If he runs Independent he will be a true Republican in spirit. The Republican party left Mr. Hutchins and other true Republicans. Perhaps the chances will be better in another district not containing Left wing areas like Chapel Hill and Durham.

Mr. Hutchins predicted before the election that if he did not get the nomination whoever of the other three candidates who did would lose to the incumbent Democrat David Price in the November election. Mr. Hutchins still stands by that prediction.
